Ethics and Deviations in Decision-making - An Applied Study (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020): Gagari Chakrabarti, Tapas Chatterjea Ethics and Deviations in Decision-making - An Applied Study (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020)
Gagari Chakrabarti, Tapas Chatterjea
R2,975 Discovery Miles 29 750 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book explores how the ethically inconsistent behaviour in workplaces can be rooted in moral fibers of the decision-makers, and/or in their varying moral foci depending on the philosophical cornerstones, on which those rest. It explores further whether such decisions may be shaped or modified by contextual factors leading, possibly, to bounded ethicality. Based on a primary survey approaching the academicians, administrators, and other service-holders from India and abroad, it analyses the problem, its determinants and variations across socio-economic and demographic factors.

Employees' Emotional Intelligence, Motivation & Productivity, and Organizational Excellence - A Future Trend in HRD... Employees' Emotional Intelligence, Motivation & Productivity, and Organizational Excellence - A Future Trend in HRD (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2018)
Gagari Chakrabarti, Tapas Chatterjea
R1,684 Discovery Miles 16 840 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book focuses on emotional intelligence, which has emerged as a factor in superior on-the-job performance and ability to lead an effective life. Based on an emerging country, namely India, the book deviates from traditional approaches by focusing on non-cognitive rather than cognitive skills to explain and predict performance and achievements. It finds that those with strong intrinsic non-cognitive skills, like trustworthiness, conscientiousness, adaptability, initiative and commitment have a better chance of becoming effective leaders with enhanced service-orientation, empathy and conflict management skills -traits desired by any organization striving for efficiency. It also demonstrates that while such imponderable, intrinsic skills matter, they cannot replace discernible psycho-social factors and hence, effective hiring strategies must focus on behavioural competence along with cognitive skills. The book also discusses organizations' desire to ensure a working environment that is vibrant and positive in an attempt to prevent unconstructive or disruptive factors and to ensure improved performances over time. The book is a valuable resource for corporate personnel, as well as for researchers and practitioners in the field.

Gagari Chakrabarti, Chitrakalpa Sen
R3,003 Discovery Miles 30 030 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book brings together experts from four continents (Asia, North America, Europe, Africa) and from varied disciplines to discuss a spectrum of problems created by globalization, such as the economic and financial, environmental, legal, cultural, socio-economic and social media impacts. The book not only examines the problems from a number of different perspectives, but also considers the impact of globalization in emerging nations around the world. Due to the very nature of these problems, the approaches adopted are both qualitative and quantitative; it includes quantitative research on quantum finance and the financial crisis, and also discussions on qualitative problems, such as cultural imperialism and neoliberalism. Of interest to economic researchers and management professionals, the book is also a valuable resource for social media researchers, environment scientists, and non-technical readers concerned with socio-political issues. This single volume offers a holistic view and therefore a more complete picture of the problems posed by globalization.

Anatomy of Global Stock Market Crashes - An Empirical Analysis (Paperback, 2012): Gagari Chakrabarti, Chitrakalpa Sen Anatomy of Global Stock Market Crashes - An Empirical Analysis (Paperback, 2012)
Gagari Chakrabarti, Chitrakalpa Sen
R1,428 Discovery Miles 14 280 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This work is an exploration of the global market dynamics, their intrinsic natures, common trends and dynamic interlinkages during the stock market crises over the last twelve years. The study isolates different phases of crisis and differentiates between any crisis that remains confined to the region and those that take up a global dimension. The latent structure of the global stock market, the inter-regional and intra-regional stock market dynamics around the crises are analyzed to get a complete picture of the structure of the global stock market. The study further probing into the inherent nature of the global stock market in generating crisis finds the global market to be chaotic thus making the system intrinsically unstable or at best to follow knife-edge stability. The findings have significant bearing at theoretical level and on policy decisions.

Walking the road of New Economy (Paperback): Gagari Chakrabarti Walking the road of New Economy (Paperback)
Gagari Chakrabarti
R1,289 Discovery Miles 12 890 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The significant development in information and communication technology around the globe in recent year has taken almost the form of a revolution. This so-called 'e-revolution' is said to be transforming the global economy to a 'new' economy from an old one. With the emerging new economy sector, there has been a significant stock value increment in the Indian stock market. The book seeks to explore whether this significant stock market performance is backed by sound real economy performance. It then explores whether India has sufficient and smooth flow of fund to sustain any such structural change. With the advent of e-revolution, the concept of financing is changing. Apart from traditional financiers, alternative means of financing, most importantly venture capital funding is gaining importance in India. The work investigates the trend and growth in venture capital in India and compares that to those in USA where venture capital has been a true and useful source of fund for new economy entrepreneurs. The study reaches the conclusion that while in the new economy venture capitalists have distinct role to play, venture capital in its true form is still absent in India.

Dynamics of Global Stock Market (Paperback): Gagari Chakrabarti Dynamics of Global Stock Market (Paperback)
Gagari Chakrabarti
R1,785 Discovery Miles 17 850 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

With the financial crisis of 2007-08, the old issue of finance-growth nexus is resurrected. The crisis has revealed once again how a structurally flawed global financial system under the New Financial Architecture might prove to be dangerous for the rest of the economy. At this crucial juncture, thus, inquiries about the functioning of the global financial markets are likely to be invoked. This book while exploring this issue concentrates on the global stock market. Specifically, it is a study into the global market dynamics, their intrinsic natures, common trends and their dynamic interlinkages during the stock market crisis of 2007- 2008 and the recent recovery period that has started from March 2009. It inquires whether and how the dynamics and interlinkages of a market change as it moves closer to a peak, falls from it and recovers. Finally it seeks to explore how the intrinsic nature of the stock market could be described? Is it really an 'order disguised as disorder'?

Real Sector Financial Sector Interdependence in Indian Context (Paperback): Gagari Chakrabarti Real Sector Financial Sector Interdependence in Indian Context (Paperback)
Gagari Chakrabarti
R1,771 Discovery Miles 17 710 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The last few years of the twentieth century witnessed significant developments in information and communication technology taking the form of an e-revolution that is transforming the global economy from a low-productive, manufacture-based old one to a knowledge-based, highly-productive, new economy with significant growth potential coming from irreversible advancement in knowledge. With e-revolution, the new-economy sector is adding significant values to Indian stock market. This book inquires whether the underlying economic fundamentals could justify the stock market valuations of the sector. Moreover, it explores whether new-economy stock price movements show similar patterns irrespective of the level of financial development and the factors explaining such movements. It finds new-economy stocks to have bubble-determined prices and to possess a special character holding across countries. With functional instability embedded in the stock market, this is perhaps the initiation of a new era of changed stock price behavior at least for the new-economy stocks that the standard pricing models cannot explain. This analysis would be of interest to researchers and academicians.

Momentum Trading on the Indian Stock Market (Paperback, 2013 ed.): Gagari Chakrabarti, Chitrakalpa Sen Momentum Trading on the Indian Stock Market (Paperback, 2013 ed.)
Gagari Chakrabarti, Chitrakalpa Sen
R1,769 Discovery Miles 17 690 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This study is an exploration of the Indian stock market, focusing on the possible presence of momentum trading. One thing, however, should be noted. While it is true that momentum trading, which tends to generate speculative bubbles, may result in a financial market crash, its nature in contrast might depend on the nature of the economy itself. The study, while exploring the presence and nature of momentum trading on the Indian stock market in recent years, seeks to relate it to significant structural breaks in the Indian or global economy. To be precise, it outlines a potential correlation between the instability in the stock market and the speculative trading on the market, exploring the question of whether it is human psychology that drives financial markets. In the process, the choice of a significant structural break has been obvious: the global financial meltdown of 2007-2008 a crisis that has often been referred to as the worst ever since the crash of 1929. While analyzing the nature of momentum trading on the Indian stock market with regard to the financial crisis of 2007-08, the study takes into account two major representatives of the market, the BSE (Bombay Stock Index) and NSE (National Stock Index), for the period 2005 to 2012. This study seeks to answer a few important questions. First of all, it tries to unveil the underlying structure of the market. In doing so, it examines the following issues: (i) What was the latent structure of the Indian stock market leading up to the crisis of 2007-08? Does the structure offer insights into designing profitable trading strategies? (ii) Is it possible to construct a profitable portfolio on the Indian stock market? (iii) Is there any profitable trading strategy on the Indian stock market? While exploring these issues, the study delves deeper, breaking the whole period down into two sub-periods, before the crisis of 2008 and after the crisis. The purpose of this division is to determine whether there has been any discernible change in the market structure since the shock.

Persistent and Emerging Challenges to Development - Insights for Policy-Making in India (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2022): Supravat... Persistent and Emerging Challenges to Development - Insights for Policy-Making in India (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2022)
Supravat Bagli, Gagari Chakrabarti, Prithviraj Guha
R4,567 Discovery Miles 45 670 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book covers a wide range of the issues in development studies. Recognizing the existence of manifold challenges in achieving and sustaining economic development, it is divided into four sections-(i) The Macroeconomy: Foreign Trade, Structural Transition and the Environment, (ii) Health and Standard of Living, (iii) Education, Human Capital and Evolution of the Employment Quality in India, and (iv) Banking and Credit: Access, Efficiency and Stability. The book brings together a right mix of senior and young economists who use cutting edge econometric techniques and/ or revisit a perennial question with much sharper focus and tools to unravel insights that are important and will inform tomorrow's theorisation and policy making. The volume looks at important questions like spatial concentration of low infant and child health outcomes, trade liberalisation and export quality, intergenerational occupational mobility, multidimensional poverty incidence in rural India, robustness of the banking sector, to name a few. To do so, the contributions use novel and esoteric methods like machine learning, spatial econometrics, system GMM, quintile regression and counterfactual decomposition (QRCD), and so on. The rich collection holds importance for researchers and policy makers alike, and also for practitioners working in different developmental sectors..

Green Investing - The Case of India (Paperback, 2015 ed.): Gagari Chakrabarti, Chitrakalpa Sen Green Investing - The Case of India (Paperback, 2015 ed.)
Gagari Chakrabarti, Chitrakalpa Sen
R1,848 Discovery Miles 18 480 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book seeks to answer the essential question of the investment-worthiness of green instruments. It is evident that investing in green and energy-efficient firms will be the most profitable choice for wise investors in the years to come. The reconciliation of the social choice for green technology and investors' choice for gray technology will be automatically achieved once green firms become more profitable than gray ones, in the Indian context. As there has been very little research done in this area, especially in the Indian context, this book addresses that gap. In order to do so, it follows the development of five different portfolios consisting of 100% green, 75% green-25% gray, 50% green-50% gray, 25% green-75% gray and 100% gray stocks, and attempts to answer questions such as: Do green portfolios entail less relative own-risk as compared to their gray counterparts? How effectively do green portfolios avoid market risk? Are green portfolios inherently more stable? Do green portfolios have a higher probability of surviving a financial crisis? Is the performance of green portfolios backed by their fundamentals? Is there any particular technical trading strategy that can ensure a consistently above-average return from these portfolios?
